Welcome to another edition and thank you for checking out my blog. I would like to start by letting you know that my community office has moved to a new location - 9587 Weston Rd #9, in Woodbridge. My phone number has been changed to 905-832-6630.
November has been a busy month both at my new constituency office meeting with residents and attending many special events in the riding. I was proud to speak on behalf of the Premier and the Minister of Tourism and Culture at the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery for the Painting Canada exhibit – Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven. I encourage all to visit the exhibit while it runs at McMichael for the next few months. I was also pleased to be at the Mackenzie Health Silver Anniversary reception, a Russian Community celebration, given an opportunity to guest lecture at a York University public policy class, and tour Dongara – a manufacturing company in Vaughan that produces an engineered fuel to replace coal, using municipal solid waste. I was also pleased to speak at a gala celebration for the Meta Foundation – an organization devoted to bettering the lives of persons with behavioural, cognitive and learning disabilities.
On the 5th of November, I was given a tremendous honour of being appointed as a Parliamentary Assistant to the Honourable Dwight Duncan, the Minister of Finance. Becoming the Parliamentary Assistant is a great opportunity to assist the Minister in strengthening the economy, creating more jobs for Ontarians while protecting what matters most to Vaughan families – healthcare and education. Parliamentary Assistants work with ministers to advance key priorities within their portfolios and contribute to special projects. For example, I will assist the Minister in developing the next Ontario budget and continue to build on the McGuinty government’s plan to eliminate the deficit and strengthen Ontario’s economy – helping create more jobs and protecting the gains we’ve made together in our classrooms and hospitals over the past nine years.
On the 10th and 11th I found myself at the Woodbridge Legion for Remembrance Day festivities including the Armistice Dinner. We paid respects to those who fought for freedom and sacrificed everything for their country and peace. We will never forget, and be forever grateful.
A more competitive and creative side of Vaughan was on display, as I attended the launch of the Film Festival and a Math-e-letics competition at the Vellore Village Community Centre. I also participated in Santafest parade and was the Honorary Chair of the Vitanova Foundation’s 25th Anniversary fundraiser. I’d like to wish Subaru of Maple, Mongiovi Restaurant in Woodbridge and Maple Volkswagen all the success in their business endeavors – as I was happy to attend their grand openings.
The month ended with the start of the holiday season, as the Kleinburg Tree Lighting took place on the 30th. Finally, I would like to wish all those people who participated or donated to a ‘Movember’ campaign, congratulations for your support for a worthwhile cause.
As always, should you ever need any assistance, please feel free to contact me at my office.
This website is provided for your convenience. If you'd prefer to call or email, my staff and I would be happy to hear from you.
